Introducing our newest investment at Laser 1: a state-of-the-art high-performance turning center.
We’ve got a great new tool in our arsenal. The Haas ST-30Y is a big and powerful beast, able to turn and mill complex parts, and to perform multiple operations. By enabling us to craft parts on a single machine, we’re able to reduce handling, improve accuracy, and increase throughput.
This Y-Axis CNC Lathe with 18″ x 23″ maximum capacity and 3.0″ bar capacity was designed with continuous production in mind. A typical lathe requires constant operator supervision, and is limited to turning operations only. This Haas adds milling and tapping operations, using live tooling.
Customers benefit as we reduce the production cycle, make more complicated parts, and increase precision. On the production floor at Laser 1, processes are more efficient. During long runs, the machine maintains excellent precision due its extreme rigidity. It’s also designed for thermal stability, allowing us to perform longer, more complex operations. A lesser machine will transfer too much heat to the parts, which jeopardizes precision.
Lastly, the ST-30Y can also process longer parts: it cuts up to 18-inch maximum diameter and 23-inch maximum cutting length.
Bottom line for Laser 1: we can stay competitive and expand our service offerings. As we increase our production by manufacturing more parts in the same amount of time, we pass the savings on to you. Our customers enjoy greater precision and uniform quality at a better price point than we can provide with older equipment. We’ve been able to reduce operations from three to one, or even from six to two.
Applications include connectors for high and low pressure hoses, stainless steel couplings–any parts that require various centers. We’re seeing these parts go out to machines builders and the aerospace, medical, agriculture, and automotive industries.

The ST-30Y is the latest Haas high-performance turning center – designed to provide heavy cutting ability, extreme rigidity and high thermal stability. It has a maximum cutting capacity of 10.0” x 23.0”, with maximum swings of 806 mm over the front apron and 31.75” over the cross slide.
The Haas ST-30 Series Y-axis turning centers provide 4” of Y-axis travel (±2.00” from the centerline) for off-center milling, drilling, and tapping, and come standard with high-torque live tooling and a servo-driven C-Axis for versatile 4-axis capability.
